CCISD goes back to school Monday, August 21

This is a friendly reminder from the City of Seabrook that school in Seabrook will start on Monday, August 21, 2017. As the school year starts, we encourage motorists to slow down and put down their cell phones.

If you drive to school, through a school zone neighborhood or near a school here are a few safety tips to keep all students safe this year:

  • Obey the posted school zone speed limit. Speed limits in school zones may vary.
  • Be patient during drop-off and pick-up if you drive your student to school or drive near a school. The roadways surrounding schools are congested during these times.
  • Yield to pedestrians at all intersections, whether marked with a crosswalk or not.
  • Look both way for pedestrians and bicyclists when turning at an intersection.
  • Be aware of students walking along sidewalks or trails.
  • Watch for young and less predictable children who may dart into the road.
  • Stop and wait for school buses when red lights are flashing. This includes traffic traveling in the opposite direction.
Seabrook school zones are located on Meyer, El Mar Lane and Lakeside Drive. Crosswalks at Meyer and Lakeside are monitored by a crossing guard.

State law prohibits talking on or using a mobile device while in a school zone. Violations can result in a fine up to $200 (plus court costs).

The City of Seabrook wishes everyone a safe and happy school year.
