Construction to start on Todville Sanitary Sewer Project

On April 2, 2018, the City of Seabrook will begin the Todville Sanitary Sewer Project which is part of an ongoing effort to reduce inflow and infiltration into the city’s sanitary sewer system. The Todville Sanitary Sewer Project is one of the city’s Capital Improvement Projects.

Inflow occurs when rainwater is misdirected into the sanitary sewer system, instead of flowing into the storm sewers. This may be the result of various factors but a few include roof leaders, yard and area drains, manhole covers and cross connections from storm drains. To correct inflow issues, improper connections to the sanitary sewer system must be removed.

Infiltration occurs when groundwater seeps into the sanitary sewer system through cracks or leaks in sewer pipes. These cracks and leaks may be caused by age-related deterioration, loose joints, damage or root perforation. To remedy infiltration repairs and replacements must be made to the infrastructure.

Inflow and infiltration may cause sanitary sewer backups which may lead to stopped up sewer lines. In addition, excess stormwater and groundwater entering the system may result in increased wastewater treatment costs. The Todville Sanitary Sewer Project will replace manholes along Todville Road between East Meyer and Brummerhop Street in addition to rehabbing and/or replacing the existing main sewer pipes and taps.

Motorists can expect intermittent single lane closures along Todville during construction. Residents may experience periodic water and sanitary service interruptions, but these should be limited and advance notice will be given to those who will be impacted.

The contract bid was awarded to WadeCon, LLC, and construction is expected to be completed within the next ten months, weather permitting. Motorists should observe and obey all traffic signs and lane closures during this construction period.
